Art in the Afternoon DVD - Grade 7

Art in the Afternoon DVD - Grade 7

Art in the Afternoon is a downsized version of the award-winning Arts Attack visual art curriculum. It is designed for those after school programs that do not have the time available to teach a full year’s curriculum, but wish to implement a cost-effective easy-to-teach, high-quality art program as an enrichment activity during the time that they do have available.

The Art in the Afternoon Grade 7 program provides an age-appropriate balanced approach to teaching art – emphasizing both the fundamentals of art and creative expression. Taught to the right side of the brain, it emphasizes the art elements and principles, drawing technique, self-expression, artist appreciation, art history, multi-cultural art, and media diversity. Many of the lessons connect to the medieval period, such as Medieval Castles, The Court Jester, Gargoyles, Mythical Beasts and Royal Portraits. Students do a color value study, a series of expressions on a single theme, learn a printing technique and make masks representing other cultures. Right brain (contour) drawing skills continue to be developed. Students study and learn the styles of the artists Paul Klee, Albrecht Durer, and Michelangelo and then create original artworks in their styles.

The Grade 7 program includes 12 lessons, 4.2 hours of instructional video (shown to the students and featuring classroom demonstrations by other seventh graders), a digital art image program with discussion guides, lesson plans, student drawing aids, teacher reference materials and much more. Being video-based, it can be taught by teachers or parents with little or no art or art education background, as well as by those with considerable art education training – achieving exceptional results in both cases.
