It is designed for those afterschool programs that do not have the time available to teach a full year’s curriculum, but wish to implement a cost-effective easy-to-teach, high-quality art program as an enrichment activity during the time that they do have available. Its focus is on teaching the art elements and principles, drawing techniques and creative self-expression, whilst also addressing such subjects as learning and working in the styles of the masters, exploring a variety of media, art history and multicultural art. Art in the Afternoon is available in the all new Online format, as well as in the traditional DVD format.

...by art specialists, classroom teachers, parent art docents and/or after school staff members, Art in the Afternoon is an easy-to-teach online art curriculum developed for use in the elementary and middle grades - K-8. Art in the Afternoon teaches 12 lessons per grade level, a carefully selected subset of the 24-27 lessons in the Arts Attack visual art curriculum.
Upgrade capability
Art in the Afternoon can easily be converted to the full year Arts Attack visual art curriculum. A conversion package consisting of 12-15 additional lessons with a more comprehensive teachers manual is available for those who purchase the Art in the Afternoon program and then decide, at a later date, that they wish to convert to a full year’s visual art curriculum.

Program Components
The Video Package:The primary teaching tool in the program comprising 12 lessons in either Online or DVD format is designed to be shown directly to the students. Every lesson follows a similar format and is taught in the following manner:-- The materials required for the lesson are displayed.
- Art prints, art objects, examples, on-location footage, etc. are used to provide motivation and to stimulate student interest, ideas and concepts.
- Where appropriate warm-up exercises are presented.
- The lesson is demonstrated and new techniques are taught.
- Students in a classroom setting are shown working through the lesson in a variety of ways and with a range of skills.
- A sampling of the complete art projects from the students on the video are displayed.
The Teacher’s Manual:
The focus of the Teacher’s Manual are the lesson plans (including warm-up exercises, drawing aids and artist chronologies) which support and summarize the lessons taught on the videos.
The manual also contains:-
- Teaching tips and suggestions
- Lesson objectives
- A summary of all of the supplies required
- Guidelines for a visit to an art museum and giving a year-end art show
- A glossary of art terminology and a bibliography
Designed to be used by staff personnel whose art education background ranges from zero to extensive, the manual clearly and simply communicates the goals, concepts, materials and processes for teaching each lesson.
